WEST POINT, N.Y. - Freshman forward Michele Galvin headed in a cross from classmate Allison Mack in the 80th minute to lift Binghamton women's soccer (5-3-1) to a hard-fought 1-0 road win over Army (5-4-1) Monday night. The win in BU's final non-conference match, snapped the hosts' three-game win streak and sent the Bearcats into their America East opener on a high note.

Outshot 10-2 in a scoreless first half, BU began to build its offense in the second period. The pressure paid off at the 79:25 mark when Mack sent a cross into the box where Galvin headed it home for her second goal of the season.

Three BU keepers combined for the shutout. Senior Carrie Martin started and made one save in the first 30 minutes. Junior Gaby Gold took over late in the first half and played part of the second half, recording three saves in her 35 minutes. Senior Stephanie Speirs played the final 24 minutes to close out the team's fourth shutout of the season.

"I thought we absorbed a lot of attacking pressure by Army in the first half and did a really good job staying composed," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "Army was a very strong team and it was a great test for us in our final preparation for conference play. I was really impressed with our team effort in the second half ... our work rate and communication were excellent. We showed great persistence to get the ball and then to seal the win with the goal. We're excited to build on this effort."

It was the first-ever meeting between Binghamton and Army.

The Bearcats open conference play with a Sunday afternoon tilt at New Hampshire.
