VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior forward Steve Celeste scored in the 12th minute, leading Binghamton (3-8-0, 1-0-0 AE) to a 1-0 win over Hartford (4-4-2, 0-1-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The victory gave the Bearcats their second conference-opening win in three seasons.
Celeste finished off a cross to net his first goal of the year. The assists went to freshman Ben Ovetsky who fired a long pass from the left sideline, and Derrick Ladeairous, who took the pass and crossed in front to Celeste.
On defense, the Bearcats recorded their second shutout of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Robert Moewes made three saves in the process.
"I thought we got a complete game today," head coach Paul Marco said. "We played extremely well from the first whistle to the last whistle. I thought it was a very good match and a great college soccer game to watch."
Hartford finished the game with a 10-7 edge in shots.
Binghamton is home next Saturday at 1 p.m. against New Hampshire.
