Men’s Soccer Loses 1-0 at Albany, will be No. 3 seed in AE Tournament

Bearcats host Stony Brook on Saturday at 6 p.m. in quarterfinals

ALBANY, N.Y. – Alfonso Pinheiro scored in the 38th minute, leading Albany (4-8-6, 2-4-1 AE) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (5-13-0, 3-4-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Wednesday evening at Albany Stadium. With the loss, the Bearcats settle for the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will host No. 6 Stony Brook on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Binghamton had entered the evening needing a win plus a Hartford loss to move up to the No. 2 position and earn a first-round bye. The Hawks defeated UMass Lowell 1-0 in overtime moments after the Bearcats' game ended.

Pinheiro's goal, which was assisted by Luke Palmateer, came on a long-range shot that went inside the far post. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Albany finished with a 16-11 shot advantage for the game.

The Bearcats defeated Stony Brook 5-1 on Senior Day at the Bearcats Sports Complex this past Saturday. The winner of the game this Saturday heads to Hartford for a semifinal game next Wednesday at 7 p.m.

NOTES: The Binghamton Athletic Department will release ticket information for the America East quarterfinal game on Thursday morning.
