VESTAL, N.Y. – Emil Ekblom scored in the 64th minute, leading No. 18 Syracuse (7-1-0) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (2-6-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Orange came into the game ranked No. 18 in the NSCAA poll and No. 20 by College Soccer News.
Ekblom took a pass from Jordan Murrell and fired the ball into the net from close range. It was his team-high fifth goal of the year.
For the Bearcats, sophomore goalkeeper Robert Moewes returned to the lineup and made a career-high 11 saves. It is the most stops by a BU player since junior Stefano Frantellizzi recorded 12 saves against Columbia on Oct. 19, 2013.
Although they were outshot 18-5 for the game, the Bearcats created several scoring chances during the game. The Orange were able to clear a ball off the line in the first half and Alex Bono made five saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. Syracuse has allowed only one goal all season.
"I thought tonight was a very good soccer game," head coach Paul Marco said. "Syracuse is a very good team but we were able to create opportunities to score. We were just a little unlucky in the box."
Binghamton heads to Princeton for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday.
NOTES: Syracuse was the third nationally-ranked team to visit the Bearcats Sports Complex since the facility opened in 2007. Cornell was No. 24 in 2012 and UMBC was seventh last season.
