VESTAL, N.Y. -Â Binghamton women's soccer embarks on its final road trip of the regular season when BU makes the nine-hour trek to Orono to face Maine on Sunday. The America East tilt begins at 1 p.m. at Mahaney Diamond.
The Bearcats (1-11-2, 0-4-1 AE) are coming off a 1-1 home draw with Stony Brook on Thursday in a game when they produced a season-high 23 shots on goal. Sophomore midfielder
Valerie McNamara netted her first goal of the season in the 30th minute. Sophomore keeper
Katie Hatziyianis made seven saves in 110 minutes of action.Â
With just three games remaining, BU likely needs a win over the Black Bears to keep its postseason hopes alive. The top six teams in the standings advance to the America East playoffs and the Bearcats will have to leapfrog two teams to get in position.Â
Maine (8-5-1, 3-1-1 AE) is in a tie for third place in the conference standings and has won three of its last four. On Thursday, the Black Bears posted a 2-1 overtime win at first place New Hampshire. Maine has played in three overtime league games, having tied Hartford 1-1 and beaten UMBC 1-0 in the previous two. The team's lone conference loss was a 2-1 loss at Vermont last Sunday. The Black Bears are 6-0 at home this season.
Junior keeper Claudia Dube-Trempe has a paltry 0.98 goals against average and five shutouts to her credit. Up front, senior striker Charlene Achille has netted a team-high five goals.Â
Binghamton leads the all-time series between the two programs, 8-5-3. Last year the teams played to a scoreless draw in Vestal.Â
