ORONO, Maine - Binghamton women's soccer (2-11-2, 1-4-1 AE) scored once in each half and kept host Maine (8-6-1, 3-2-1 AE) at bay to earn a 2-0 win in an America East contest Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond. The win, BU's first conference victory of the season, keeps the team's postseason hopes alive with two games remaining in the regular season.

"I'm so happy for our girls," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "It was a fantastic effort, teamwork and skill against a very strong Maine team. Now we have to focus on the next match and build from today."

Senior Katherine Corcoran opened the scoring with a goal straight off a corner kick in the 26th minute of the game. Corcoran did it all, beginning with a shot that was deflected out of bounds by the Maine keeper. She then curled her first corner kick to the near post where it was again deflected out of bounds. Corcoran's second attempt curled high and to the far post, where it bent into the netting for her first tally of the season - and BU's second directly off a corner kick this fall.

Junior Leighann Bennett added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Just-inserted sophomore midfielder Hannah Shankman collected a loose ball near midfield and sent a long pass down the right side to Bennett, who outraced two defenders and drilled a shot from a wide angle into the net for her first goal of the season.

Minutes earlier, sophomore keeper Katie Hatziyianis made a diving stop on a 1-on-1 break for the Black Bears on the right side of the box to preserve the slim lead. Hatziyianis made eight saves to record her second shutout of the season.

Maine held a 20-15 edge in shots.

The Bearcats host UMBC at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
