Volleyball Heads to UMass Lowell for Regular Season Finale Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y.  – After a pair of key home wins last weekend, the Binghamton volleyball team hits the road for its final match of the regular season, as they take on UMass Lowell. The match will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 15.

The last time the two faced off, Binghamton won in five sets. The match on October 16 was a record-setting one for junior Kasey Muchnicki, as she compiled a personal-best 31 digs. UMass Lowell is led by freshman hitter Haley Shimon, who paces her team in kills per set with 2.38 on the year.

It can advance to the America East Tournament under several scenarios this weekend. With a win and a 1-1 weekend for both Stony Brook and UMBC, the Bearcats would qualify in a tiebreaker. BU can also go through with a win, a 1-1 weekend for UMBC, and a 2-0 or 0-2 weekend for Stony Brook.

On November 6, Binghamton (8-18, 5-6 AE) hosted UMBC (11-13, 5-5 AE), winning the match in four games. Binghamton hit a season-high .405 hitting percentage in the conference slate. Sarah Ngo tallied 57 assists to go along with 12 digs. The match included a 62-point second set, tying the season high for most points in a frame this season for Binghamton.

After the victory on Friday, Binghamton faced off against Stony Brook (11-17, 5-5 AE) in an exciting five-game victory the next day. In the last home match of her career, senior Megan Burgess recorded 13 kills and served on match point in the decisive fifth set. Freshman Gabby Alicea contributed a career-high 20 points in the match as well.

Ngo and Alicea would go on to win conference honors for their performance over the weekend. Ngo earned America East Setter of the Week for the second time this season, while Alicea took home the conference's rookie of the week award for the first time in 2015.

In the brief history of the series, the Bearcats have a 5-0 record all-time against the River Hawks.
