ITHACA, N.Y.—The Binghamton (3-2) women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a hot Cornell start, and lost 22-3 at Cornell's Schoellkopf Field today.
Cornell (4-1) sprinted out to a 6-0 start before
Callon Williams put the Bearcats on the board. The sophomore split two defenders to get a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and sent a shot into the back of the net.
The Big Red responded with five straight goals, before
Brianna Russo scored the Bearcats' second goal of the game. Russo took the ball from about fifteen yards out, went wide around a defender, before sliding in front of the net to take the shot. The senior has now scored in back-to-back games.
Brianne Arthur scored Binghamton's first goal of the second half, when she caught a nice feed from Williams, and cut in front of the net to shoot.
Cornell closed out the scoring, running a string of eight straight goals to end the game.
The loss snaps Binghamton's three game winning streak. The Bearcats return to action this Saturday, March 14, when they welcome the Marist Red Foxes to the Bearcats Sports Complex. That game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
