STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Binghamton exploded for 10 runs in the third inning and the Bearcats (4-8, 1-2 America East) went on to post a 13-2 win over host Stony Brook (6-9, 2-1 AE) in the series finale Monday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

Already ahead 3-1 entering the third inning, BU sent 15 men to the plate and used nine hits to score 10 runs. The Bearcats scored eight runs with two outs and did their damage thanks to seven straight batters reaching base. The last time BU scored double-digit runs in a single inning was two years ago when they erased a 6-1 deficit in their final at-bat at VMI, scoring 10 runs to win 11-6 (3-3-13). 

Senior right fielder Jake Thomas and junior second baseman Reed Gamache each had two hits and drove in two in the inning. Thomas stroked a two-out, two-run double down the left field line to pile on late in the uprising. Gamache followed with his second RBI single of the frame. Earlier, sophomore catcher Eddie Posavec delivered a two-out, two-run triple to right center. Freshman left fielder Chris McGee joined the action with a run-scoring double - his first collegiate RBI. Senior center fielder Zach Blanden also recorded an RBI in the inning.

After the 10-run outburst, both offenses were quiet the rest of the way with Stony Brook posting the only other run of the game over the final six innings.

Gamache, who had a two-run triple in the first inning, wound up 3-for-5 with four RBI. Thomas was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Posavec went 2-for-4 with two RBI. In the three-game set, Gamache hit .538 (7-for-13) with six RBI. Thomas leads the team with a .405 season average and has 11 RBI in his first 12 games of 2015.

Senior starter Greg Ostner (W, 1-3) notched his first win of the season with 5.0 innings. Ostner scattered five hits and two runs. Four BU relievers pitched an inning apiece to close out the lopsided win.

Binghamton next plays a three-game non-conference set at Villanova, beginning with a single game at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
