Softball Drops Non-Conference DH at Bucknell 2-1 and 5-1

Rutherford goes 2-for-3 in each game

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Kristen Zahn drove in four runs and Mariah Midyette added three RBI, leading Bucknell (22-17) to a sweep over Binghamton (12-13) in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Becker Field. The Bison won the opener 2-1 and the finale 5-1.

In the opener, Midyette doubled home the first run in the bottom of the second inning. One inning later, Zahn made it 2-0 on another RBI double.

Freshman Gabby Bracchi, who went 3-for-3 in the first game, broke the shutout with a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. The Bearcats, however, left a pair of runners on base when the game ended.

Dana Nielsen was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 7-4. Sophomore pitcher Shelby Donhauser took the loss and is now 2-3.

Freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford and junior catcher Taylor Chaffee each went 2-for-3 in the first game.

Midyette opened the scoring in the second game with a two-run single in the bottom of the second inning. Zahn made it 4-0 on a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning.

Freshman Carrie Maniccia broke the shutout when she scored on a fielder's choice by freshman pitcher Sarah Miller in the top of the fourth inning. The Bearcats committed a pair of miscues in the bottom of the fourth inning, however, which led to a RBI single by Zahn.

Amanda Fazio went the distance in the pitcher's circle to improve to 12-9. Miller was tagged with the loss and is now 5-5.

Rutherford also went 2-for-3 in the second game. Sophomore shortstop Crysti Eichner finished the doubleheader 2-for-5 with a double and scored a run.

Binghamton is scheduled to host UMass Lowell on Tuesday at noon in a rescheduled America East Conference doubleheader.
