Men's Lacrosse Wins at Canisius, 11-9, Tuesday Night

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team won, 11-9, at Canisius Tuesday night. Tucker Nelson dished out four assists and Austin Macchi won 16 faceoffs  in the non-conference game at the Demske Sports Complex

Binghamton fell behind, 3-1, after a quarter, but controlled the action from there. The Bearcats won the faceoff to open the second period and that possession eventually resulted in a J.T. Hauck with 13:46 left in the first half. Austin Macchi won the ensuing faceoff and BU cashed in, as O'Donnell found Johnny Maher for a goal just 46 seconds after Hauck's. Less than two minutes later, Tyler Deluca found the back of the net, giving Binghamton a 4-3 edge. Tucker Nelson assisted on the play.

Canisius scored a tying goal later in the frame, but Zach Scaduto put the Bearcats back on top with a goal at the 1:25 mark. BU headed into the locker room with the 5-4 advantage.

In the third quarter, Binghamton continued its momentum. It won the opening draw and then Nelson hit O'Donnell for a goal at the 14:08 mark. After another BU faceoff win, Deluca assisted on a Gilroy goal forty-one seconds after O'Donnell's score. The visitors kept the run rolling, as Scaduto scored again with 11:15 showing on the clock, giving BU an 8-4 lead. Binghamton capped its 5-0 spurt with O'Donnell's second goal of the night. Nelson found his fellow senior with 8:37 left in the third, putting the Bearcats ahead, 9-4.

The Golden Griffins came back with three straight goals, but BU had answers. Emmett O'Hara scored to make it 10-7 with 6:08 to go, and after a Canisius score, Ben Kocis gave Binghamton closure. The freshman finished an assist from Nelson to put BU up, 11-8, with 3:26 remaining.

Canisius scored first, but Gilroy answered with a tying goal at the 8:10 mark. The hosts then scored twice to go ahead at the end of the first frame.

Binghamton won 16-24 faceoffs and each team collected 23 groundballs. Nelson recorded four helpers, while Scaduto, Gilroy, and O'Donnell scored two goals apiece. Deluca added a goal and an assist. Macchi won 16-24 faceoffs, including 12 of his 17 in the match. George Deignan picked up six groundballs and Garrett Waldron posted five of his own. Tanner Cosens registered six saves in net.
