Annie DiMuro each won their singles and doubles matches, leading fourth-seeded Binghamton to a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded NJIT in the opening round of the America East Women's Tennis Championships on Friday afternoon at the Binghamton University Tennis Complex. With the victory, the Bearcats move on to face top-seeded Stony Brook in the semifinals on Saturday at noon.
Tashiro defeated Alba Rosas 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. She also teamed up with fellow junior
Shea Brodsky for an 8-0 win at first doubles against Carolina Zanotta and Natalija Tasovac.
DiMuro, meanwhile, defeated Tasovac 6-0, 6-3 at fifth singles. At third doubles, she joined junior
Sara Kohtz for an 8-1 win over Sydney Nowak and Ines Vjukovac.
The Bearcats' other singles winner came at the No. 6 slot, where junior
Agatha Ambrozy recorded a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Valerie Carroll.
Binghamton was leading in the other three singles matches when DiMuro recorded the clinching win.
The Bearcats are 10-9 overall this season.
This marks the first time since it joined the America East in 2001 that Binghamton University is hosting the America East Women's Tennis Championships.
