ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior forward Alex Varkatzas scored in the 67th minute, leading Binghamton (4-2-0) to a 1-0 win at Cornell (0-5-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday night at Berman Field. The victory is the Bearcats' fourth in the past five games.

Varkatzas headed in a cross from junior back Zach Galluzzo from eight yards outside the goal. It was his first goal of the season.

Galluzzo was also part of a backline that included juniors Mike Kubik and Shervin Mohajeri as well as freshman Kevin Flesch which led the Bearcats to their third shutout of the season. In goal, junior Robert Moewes made four saves to record his third solo shutout.

"Our guys played great in both halves," head coach Paul Marco said. "Cornell is a very good team that has played some nationally-ranked teams tough this year. Everyone from our strikers to our midfield and defense did great tonight."

Binghamton finished with a 14-13 advantage in shots for the game.

Up next for the Bearcats is a home game on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Siena.
