NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Binghamton wrestling team saw a dual go down to the final match for the third straight outing. On Saturday night, the Bearcats fell, 18-17, at Columbia. Steven Bulzomi, Frankie Garcia, Jack McKeever, Steve Schneider, and Mark Tracy each won for BU in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) match.
 
Bulzomi put together a strong performance to open the night. The freshman claimed a 15-6 major decision over Vince Pallone, controlling the bout throughout and giving BU an early 4-0 advantage.
 
The Lions took the next two contests, taking a 6-4 lead in the match. In the 149-pound match, Garcia recorded an 8-4 victory over Danny Reed, lifting Binghamton back into the lead.
 
The hosts picked up wins in the following pair of matches, taking a 14-7 lead.
 
In the 174-pound bout, two nationally-ranked foes squared off. McKeever, 29^th in this week's Wrestling Report rankings, came away with a tight, 4-3 decision over #30 Zach Hernandez. Schneider, tabbed 19^th in his weight class, continued BU's momentum with a 3-1 win over Mike Fetchet at 184 pounds, getting the Bearcats within a point at 14-13.
 
Mark Tracy dominated his match, handling Mike Fetchet, 17-5, in their 197-pound contest. With the major decision, BU regained the match lead. Connor Calkins fell, 9-1, to #31 Garrett Ryan in the heavyweight bout, allowing the Lions to sneak away with the dual victory.
 
Coach Matt Dernlan's squad defeated then-ranked Princeton, 18-15, on January 8, and then fell, 19-15, at Army on January 10.
 
BU dropped to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the EIWA. It competes at Hofstra tomorrow afternoon. The EIWA contest is set for a 1 p.m. start.
