Wrestling Stops Sacred Heart, 38-4, Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton wrestling team hammered Sacred Heart, 38-4, Sunday afternoon. Nine Bearcats won, as Jesse Dellavecchia and Anthony DePrez each tallied pinfalls in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) match at the West Gym.
Ā
Jacob Nicholson put together a stellar match against Tim Johnson in their 133-pound bout. Nicholson dominated from the start, recording takedowns and earning back points on his way to a 19-0 technical fall.
Ā
At 141 pounds, Caruana handled Alex Harnsberger, 12-6. Dylan Caruana earned back points in the second period and controlled the contest from there.
Ā
Dellavecchia recorded a pinfall victory over Chris Cornell at 149 pounds. Dellavecchia was aggressive immediately, earning back points early in the first frame. He later claimed the pin to earn six points for the Bearcats, who took a 14-4 advantage.
Ā
Vincent DePrez posted an 8-2 win over Casey Mitchell in their 157-pound bout. DePrez scored early and created plenty of separation on his way to the victory.
Ā
In his 165-pound contest, Anthony DePrez had a stellar showing, pinning Matt Fisher at 1:45. DePrez notched a takedown in the opening seconds and used the momentum to later collect the fall. BU took a 23-4 lead with four matches remaining.
Ā
Jack McKeever asserted himself in the first minute of his 174-pound match with Johnny Vrasidas, notching two takedowns. He grappled successfully from there, collecting a 12-4 major decision for BU.
Ā
At 184 pounds, Steve Schneider was consistent, gradually extending his lead over Elliot Antler until Schneider registered a 12-4 major decision. Binghamton led 31-4 at that point.
Ā
Mark Tracy went looking for points in the first period of his 197-pound contest with Sasha Oliinyk and found them early. Tracy scored and then generated plenty of riding time on his way to a 16-8 major decision.
Ā
At heavyweight, Connor Calkins pulled out a 3-2 decision over Ray Sherwood, clinching the final margin for the Bearcats.
Ā
At 125 pounds, Steven Bulzomi fell, 14-4, to Gerard Daly.
Ā
Binghamton improved to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the EIWA. It has won both of its home duals this year. Sacred Heart fell to 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the conference. BU hosts American in another EIWA bout on Friday, February 5. The dual is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the West Gym.
