VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton (7-4-6, 1-2-3 AE) settled for a scoreless tie against Stony Brook (8-5-3, 3-2-1 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the tie, the Bearcats clinch a spot in the America East Tournament with one game remaining in the regular season.
The match couldn't have been more even as both teams managed 13 shots.
Each goalkeeper was up to the challenge. Redshirt freshman
Alejandro Cubillo finished with seven saves to record his seventh solo shutout of the year. At the other end of the field, Tom McMahon stopped eight shots.
"I was pleased with our effort tonight," head coach
Paul Marco. "I thought our guys' energy was pretty good on Senior Night. We could have done a little more up front but our back four and Alejandro played well tonight."
The game was preceded by the program's annual Senior Day Ceremony.
Zach Galluzzo,
Shervin Mohajeri,
Alex Varkatzas and
Logan Roberts were the four players honored.
"I am please for our seniors that they get to play past the regular season," Marco said. "It would have been better to get the win for them but we are glad to be in the playoffs."
Before the playoffs, the Bearcats head to Albany on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
Unofficially, the Bearcats can finish anywhere from No. 5 to No. 6 in the America East standings. Binghamton would then play either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in a quarterfinal match next Saturday.
The America East has yet to release its official playoff scenarios.
