Men’s soccer plays to 1-1 tie against Hartford

Psarras nets fourth goal of the season as Bearcats stay unbeaten at home

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's soccer team (5-2-5, 0-0-2 AE) settled for a 1-1 draw against Hartford (4-5-3, 0-0-2 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. In the process, the Bearcats remained undefeated at home this year with a 3-0-2 mark.

Binghamton struck early as sophomore forward Nikkos Psarras netted his fourth goal of the season in the eighth minute of the match. He took a pass from sophomore midfielder Harrison Weilbacher, got in the box and slid it into the net.

Hartford, however, got the equalizer in the 39th minute off a corner kick taken by Udi Cohen. His cross was headed in by Jeff Tyron, who now has three goals this year.

Despite Psarras' goal, Binghamton had trouble offensively in the first half, generating just a pair of shots. In the second half, however, they began to click and finished the game with an 11-8 shot advantage.

In goal, redshirt freshman Alejandro Cubillo stopped three shots, including one from close range in the second overtime period.

"I thought it was a very good game," head coach Paul Marco said. "I thought it was a fair performance by our guys. We had some spells where we could have been better but give Hartford credit. They were very competitive and made things difficult for us. I thought was did enough but we are disappointed we did not get the win."

Binghamton heads to UMBC on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. conference match.
