VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior guard
Imani Watkins finished with 19 points, six blocks and five steals, leading Binghamton (4-6) to a 77-54 victory over Misericordia (5-4) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.
Watkins was one of three Bearcat players to reach double figures in scoring. Junior center
Alyssa James finished with 12 points and six rebounds while freshman guard
Kai Moon added 11 points.
Watkins' six blocks set her career high and was the second time this year she has recorded at least five rejections in a game. She also recorded her third five-steal game of the season and eighth of her career.
The Bearcats took control of the game in the opening 10 minutes, going up 22-6 after one period of play. They shot 9-of-18 from the field during that stretch and held the Cougars to only two field goals.
Binghamton took a 38-17 lead at the half and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the game.
Justine Seely of Misericordia scored 16 points and added a game-high 16 rebounds. Shannon Croasdale netted 10 points.
For the second year in a row, sophomore forward
Rebecca Carmody squared off against her twin sister Rachel. Rebecca finished with eight points , two rebounds a block and a pair of steals in 25 minutes. Rachel, meanwhile, had nine points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes. Both were starters in the game.
Binghamton shot 47 percent for the game, making 30 of its 63 shots.
Up next for Binghamton is a trip to Ohio to face the Bobcats on Monday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
