Women's Basketball Falls Short At Ohio 63-55

Sina scores season-high 21 points, Watkins adds 15 points and six assists

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Binghamton women's basketball team (4-7) was defeated 63-55 by Ohio (8-1) in an non-conference game on Monday night at the Convocation Center. The game marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jasmine Sina led the Bearcats with a season-high 21 points. She drained a career-high seven three-point field goals in the process and reached the 20-point mark in scoring for the sixth time in her career.

Junior guard Imani Watkins finished with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and a pair of steals. Freshman guard Kai Moon added 11 points.

Playing against a Bobcat squad that advanced to the third round of the WNIT last year and won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) title two years ago, Binghamton started off the game strong. The Bearcats took a 16-11 lead at the end of the first period and went up 26-19 at the half.

In the opening 20 minutes, Binghamton held the Bobcats to 25 percent field goal shooting (7-of-27) and held a 21-16 rebounding advantage.

Ohio, however, stormed back to outscore the Bearcats 28-15 in the third period and take a 47-41 lead. Binghamton had been up 31-22 with 7:58 left in the period but the Bobcats scored 11 straight points in the ensuing 2:08 to go up 33-31.

The Bearcats clawed back to tie the score at 49-49 on a three-pointer by Sina with 6:41 remaining in regulation. Over the next 3:39, however, the Bobcats went on a 10-1 run to go up 59-50.

Refusing to fold, Binghamton scored five points in a span of 12 seconds to pull within 59-55 with 2:30 left to go. Moon buried a three-point field goal and Watkins scored her final two points during that stretch.

The Bobcats closed out the game by scoring the final four points.

Quiera Lampkins led all scorers with 23 points in the winning effort. Katie Barker added 18 points.

The 12 three-point field goals is the most made by the Bearcats in a game this year. Their previous season high was 11 against NJIT back on Dec. 6.

Sina now has 126 career three-point field goals and moves into seventh place all time in program history. Against Ohio, she surpassed Kim Albrecht (2012-16), who had 120 three pointers. In six place with 129 treys is Katrina Roggenbaum (1990-94).

Watkins now has 1,134 points and remains in 12th place all time in program history. In 11th place, with 1,150 points, is Erica Carter (2006-10). Furthermore, Watkins now has 255 career assists, which ties Koppenhoefer for eighth place all time in program history.

Binghamton is off until Dec. 30, when it returns to Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center for a 2 p.m. game against Georgian Court.
