VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball (9-6) shot a season-high 61 percent and topped the century mark for the first time in 16 years in a 101-54 win over Marywood Friday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.
In the team's final non-conference game before America East play begins, BU led by 32 at the half and rolled to its fifth win in six home games. The nine wins surpasses the team's win total from the entire 2015-16 season and is the most non-conference wins any BU team has recorded in 33 years.
Junior forward
Willie Rodriguez tallied a season-high 21 points (9-of-10 FG) with eight rebounds in 20 minutes of work. Sophomore guard
Everson Davis (15 pts.), freshman guard
Fard Muhammad (13 pts.) and senior guard
Marlon Beck (11 pts.) gave BU four double-digit scorers. Beck did his damage in just six minutes of action before a facial cut brought him to the bench. With 6:31 to play in the first half, Beck was outscoring Marywood on his own, 11-10.Â
Against the Division III Pacers (0-10), BU led 8-6 before embarking on a 22-4 run that spanned exactly five minutes. Beck scored all 11 of his points during the run. Rodriguez netted 15 points before intermission and surpassed the 20-point mark for the 12th time in his career.
Senior guard
John Rinaldi flirted with a triple double before settling on career-highs of 10 rebounds and seven assists along with seven points in 24 minutes. Junior forward
Justin McFadden and sophomore guard
John Schurman added nine points apiece.Â
The Bearcats totaled a school-record 26 assists (D-I era) and shot 60 percent or better for the third time this season (.611), narrowly missing the program record for highest field goal percentage (.615).Â
Binghamton begins conference play Thursday at UMBC.
NOTES
Beck (901 pts.) and Rodriguez (900) each moved closer to the 1,000-point scoring plateau. They are aiming to become the first BU teammates to reach the milestone in the same year since 2001-02 (Jeffrey St. Fort and Mike Wright) ... Beck (3-for-4 3-pt FG) also added to his career three-point total and now has 178, just five away from breaking that school record held by Troy Hailey (182)... the last time Binghamton scored 100 points in a game was on January 12, 2000 - a 105-60 home win over Bridgeport during BU's second year as a Division II program... the 47-point margin of victory was also the highest in the program's 16-year Division I history.Â
