CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. --Â Sophomore outfielder Jessica Rutherford went 4-for-8 and drove in three runs, as Binghamton (1-1) gained a split in the opening day of the Mary Nutter Softball Classic on Friday. The Bearcats lost their first game to UC-Santa Barbara (3-3) 2-0 before rallying to beat Pacific (4-3) 9-8.Â
Rutherford went 3-for-5 against Pacific and drove in the game-winning run on a single to left field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. One batter earlier, senior outfielder
Sydney Harbaugh tied the score on an infield single.

The Bearcats were down 4-0 after only a half inning of play against the Tigers. Over the next three innings, however, they came back to deadlock the game at 4-4. Senior catcher
Taylor Chaffee tied the game in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run double.

With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, senior first baseman
Lisa Cadogan stroked a two-run single. Pacific came back with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to go up 8-7 but that set the stage for Harbaugh and Rutherford's heroics in the bottom of the frame.

Cara Martin got the win in her first decision of the year. Megan Walters fell to 0-2 with the loss.

Gabby Bracchi went 3-for-4 against Pacific and scored twice.

Earlier in the day, Binghamton was held to four hits in its defeat against UC-Santa Barbara.

Despite allowing just two runs and going the full seven innings, sophomore pitcher
Sarah Miller (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Lena Mayer, meanwhile, improved to 2-0 with the win while Ashley Ludlow picked up her first save of the season.

Harbaugh finished the day 3-for-7 and hit safely in both games.Â

The Bearcats continue play at the Mary Nutter Classic on Saturday with games against Arkansas at 12:30 p.m. and Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. Both times are EST.Â
