Baseball bounced in finale at UNC Greensboro

Schanz drives in pair but BU gives up nine runs in sixth inning, loses 19-4

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Host UNC Greensboro (6-1) used two huge innings to run away from Binghamton baseball (1-6) 19-4 in Sunday's series finale at UNCG Baseball Complex. The Spartans scored seven runs in the second inning and added nine more in the sixth inning.

The Bearcats already trailed 8-3 before the Spartans exploded for nine runs on seven hits in the sixth.

Senior third baseman David Schanz went 2-for-5 with two RBI to pace BU's eight-hit attack. Schanz delivered an RBI double to left field in the top of the third inning that scored sophomore center fielder CJ Krowiak, who had singled with one out. He then added a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning to plate freshman left fielder Daniel Franchi, who had led off with a walk.

Senior second baseman Reed Gamache had an RBI double in the third inning and second-year shortstop Luke Tevlin added an RBI single in the fourth.

Seven Bearcats pitchers surrendered a combined 23 hits in the lopsided loss.

Binghamton heads to Lexington, Va. next weekend for a three-game set at VMI.
