DURHAM, N.H. – The Binghamton women's basketball team (10-13, 5-5 AE) was defeated 64-49 by New Hampshire (8-14, 2-7 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Sophomore forward
Alyssa James led the Bearcats with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks. She entered the game leading the America East with 2.9 blocks per game.
Sophomore guard
Imani Watkins finished with 11 points, two rebounds, a pair of assists and three steals. Freshman guard
Rebecca Carmody also scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Bearcats trailed 17-15 through one period but it was the next 10 minutes that proved to be decisive. The Wildcats outscored Binghamton 16-7 en route to a 33-22 halftime lead. In the final 4:42 of the second period, the Wildcats went on a 9-2 spurt.
In the third period, the Bearcats clawed to within 39-31 on a jumper by James with 5:32 remaining. From there, however, New Hampshire went on a 9-4 run to go up 48-35 at the end of the period.
The Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the game.
Ashley Storey of New Hampshire led all scorers with 22 points. Elizabeth Belanger added 19 points and a game-high 12 points while Aliza Thompson chipped in 11 points.
Binghamton heads to Albany on Monday night for a 7 p.m. game.
