LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.- The Binghamton women's tennis team rallied to win at Siena, 4-3, Sunday afternoon.
Sara Kohtz and
Annie DiMuro won the last two matches of the day, lifting the Bearcats to their second win of the spring season.
Down 3-2 with two matches still being played, BU's top two players both overcame deficits to help the Bearcats win. DiMuro dropped the first set of her #2 singles bout to Rina Sakai, 6-1, but DiMuro rallied from there. The native of Chester, New Jersey, recorded a 6-0 win to even the match and then notchd a 6-2 victory to win her contest and tie the team match.
Kohtz found herself down to Ali Garrity in their #1 singles match, as Garrity took a 6-3 decision in the opener. Kohtz, a senior, scored a 6-3 win in the second set, setting up a decisive third set. Kohtz recorded a 6-4 win, earning the win for Binghamton Sunday.
Siena had collected the doubles point by winning twice. DiMuro and Kohtz teamed up for BU's lone win, a 6-3 decision at #3 doubles.
Alexis Tashiro was the first BU singles winner, taking down Ann Phillips, 6-2 and 6-3, in their #6 singles bout, tying the team match at 1.
Olga Ostrovetsky followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #4 singles, tying the team match. The Saints took the next bout to conclude, setting up the Bearcats' rally.
BU improved to 2-3 with the win. It plays at Quinnipiac on Saturday, February 13. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
