Baseball loses at Penn 6-2

Schanz collects two hits, Gamache drives in run but BU drops opener in Philly

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Host Penn (3-7) hit a three-run home run in the third inning and limited Binghamton to six hits en route to a 6-2 win over the Bearcats (2-13) Friday afternoon at Meiklejohn Stadium.

Binghamton took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning before the Quakers seized command via the long ball in the bottom of the third. Penn then added single runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before the Bearcats closed the scoring with a run in the ninth.

Senior third baseman David Schanz went 2-for-4 to pace BU's offense. Senior second baseman Reed Gamache drove in a run with a first-inning groundout.

Junior Jake Cryts (L, 0-3) allowed six hits and four runs in 3.2 innings.

The teams play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday to wrap up the three-game series. Sophomore Jacob Wloczewski (Game 1) and senior Mike Bunal (Game 2) will take the hill for the Bearcats.
