VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore pitcher Sarah Miller threw a no hitter while sophomore third baseman Kate Richard and sophomore outfielder Jessica Rutherford each homered twice, powering Binghamton (16-9) to a 13-0, 15-1 sweep against Niagara (2-16) in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. With the victories, both of which were decided in five innings, the Bearcats stretch their current winning streak to eight games.

Binghamton pounded out 12 hits in the first game and 15 more hits in the nightcap to finish the day with a .519 batting average. Seven of those hits were home runs and six more went for extra bases.

"I thought the girls did a good job of coming out right at the start of both games," head coach Michelle Burrell said. "We put runs on the board early, got the momentum and ran with it. We made some good first outs on defense and came up with some big double plays that helped us get out of some innings."

Miller faced just 16 batters in the first game, struck out three batters and did not issue a walk. She is the first Binghamton player to throw a no hitter since Cyrilla Suker against Coppin State on April 7, 2009.

Richard finished the day a perfect 5-for-5, scored six times and drove in five runs. She hit both of her home runs in the first game.

Rutherford, meanwhile, was 3-for-5 and also had five RBI. She hit both of her home runs in the first inning of the nightcap. For the season, Rutherford is now batting a team-best .465 with three home runs and a team-high 26 RBI.

Senior designated hitter Griffin Mclver was 4-for-6, homered and scored four times. She now has five home runs in the past seven games as well as a team-best six homers so far this season.

Already up 5-0, Binghamton blew the first game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. Richard belted a three-run home run and senior catcher Lisa Cadogan smacked a two-run homer during that frame.

Richard completed the scoring in the first game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Miller improved to 8-5 with the victory, having won her third straight start. Jennifer Szilagyi dropped to 4-5 with the loss.

In the second game, the Bearcats homered four times and scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh and Rutherford hit back-to-back home runs, giving the Bearcats a quick 3-0 lead with no outs. McIver and Rutherford went on to each hit a three-run home run before the third out was recorded.

The Bearcats tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second inning and scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Makenzie Goluba raised her record to 3-0 with the win. The loss was tagged to Sydney Smyers, who is now 0-5.

Harbaugh finished 3-for-7 (.429) with five RBI. She now has 175 career hits and needs five more hits to tie Jessica Phillips (2010-13) for first place all time in program history.

Senior Taylor Chaffee went 3-for-4 and extended her hitting streak to eight games. Sophomore second baseman Stephanie Bielec was 3-for-6 and scored three times.

Binghamton's weekend series against UMBC has been moved to UMBC due to the weather. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game will start at noon.

NOTES: Binghamton's current winning streak is its longest since also winning eight straight games from April 4-17, 2003 … Rutherford is the first Binghamton player ever to homer twice in the same inning.
