LOWELL, Mass. - Binghamton baseball surrendered a 6-0 lead and UMass Lowell (13-14, 3-6 America East) stung BU with a second-straight walk-off win, 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
The first-place Bearcats (11-17, 7-2 AE) built a 6-0 lead before Lowell scored runs in four of the last five innings to grab the rubber-game win.Â
After the hosts had ralliled to tie it at 6 with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, BU reclaimed the lead with a run in the top of the eighth. Sophomore center fielder
CJ Krowiak drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice and three batters later, junior right fielder
Eddie Posavec roped a two-out RBI single to center to put the Bearcats back on top 7-6.
But Lowell returned the favor with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the frame. After BU went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, the hosts built their final rally on a leadoff walk. A wild pitch, groundout and sacrifice fly to left ended the game with one out.
Posavec went 3-for-5 with an RBI and sophomore shortstop
Paul Rufo and senior second baseman
Reed Gamache each went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Rufo had an RBI double and Gamache delivered a two-run single to highlight BU's four-run outburst in the top of the second. The Bearcats then added two runs in the fifth inning, one on a Rufo bases-loaded walk.
Sophomore
Jacob Wloczewski was cruising along with four shutout innings before running into trouble in the fifth. He wound up exiting after 5.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. Binghamton's bullpen gave up the remaining five runs over 3.2 innings.Â
The Bearcats play a single game at Cornell on Wednesday before hosting Hartford in an America East weekend set.Â
