Women's Lacrosse Drops High Scoring Game To Colgate

Williams' five goals ties personal high

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (4-9, 0-2 America East) played close with Colgate (4-8, 2-3 Patriot) all game but fell 13-11 today at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

It was a high scoring matchup, with the two teams combining for the most points in a Binghamton game all season. Callon Williams got things started by scoring two of the first three goals in the game. Sophia Racciatti tallied her first at 25:51 as the Bearcats took a 3-1 lead. After Colgate tied it up, Rebecca Golderman added her first of the game and Williams scored her third to make it 5-3. Colgate took the lead on three straight goals, but Golderman's second tied it at six with twelve minutes left in the first half. The Raiders then added two more—followed by a goal by Williams—before scoring again to make it a 9-7 Colgate lead. With three seconds left in the first half, Golderman bounce a shot past the Colgate keeper to make it 9-8.

Valerie DeNapoli got on the board and tied the game when she fired in a pass from Williams just 33 seconds into the second period. The Raiders responded with two goals, but Williams' fifth goal and Racciatti's second made it 11-11 with 16:16 remaining in regulation. It would be the last time BU would score, as Colgate went on to tally the final two goals to seal the win.

The five goals for Williams ties a game high set in her freshman season against Siena, and her six points is a new personal best for the junior. It's also her first hat trick of the season. It's the fourth hat trick for Golderman, and the third time in the last four games that she has tallied three goals. As a team the Bearcats held a 14-12 advantage on draw controls, with DeNapoli securing a game-high seven.

The team will resume play this Saturday, April 16, when they host America East foe UMBC. The game is set to start at 1 p.m., with a ceremony honoring the 2016 senior class set to take place prior to the game.
