Women's Lacrosse Falls To UNH 9-8 In OT

DeNapoli records second career hat trick for BU

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (4-7, 0-1 AE) let the lead slip away late as they fell to New Hampshire (5-6, 2-0 AE) 9-8 in overtime.

The Bearcats started hot, scoring the first three goals of the game. First it was Valerie DeNapoli scoring via free position shot, followed a minute later by Callon Williams. A minute later Olivia Batista scored off a pass from Rebecca Golderman. After a UNH goal, BU tacked on goals by DeNapoli and Jocelyn Penteck to stretch the lead to 5-1. The Wildcats responded with a pair of goals, but then Penteck scored her second of the game to make it 6-3. New Hampshire would score once more to end the half.

In the second half Golderman opened the scoring with a free position goal just fifteen seconds in. After two UNH goals, DeNapoli would add her third of the game to make it 8-6 with 6:47 left. The Bearcats were held scoreless the rest of the way, as the Wildcats scored twice in regulation to tie the game, and 1:02 into the first overtime period to win it.

It was the second career hat trick for DeNapoli, with her other coming March 8, 2014. She and Callon Williams led BU with three ground balls each, while Erin McNulty made nine saves. Golderman and Allie Rodgers each had three draw controls, and Rodgers broke her single season record by recording her 27th caused turnover this season. The senior also tied Beth Moore's (2008-11) program record of 64 CTs for her career.

Binghamton will pick up play this Wednesday, April 6, for a 2 p.m. game at Albany.
