Volleyball Travels to Northeastern for Three Contests

VESTAL, N.Y.- Binghamton volleyball makes a trip to Boston for the Northeastern Invitational this weekend. The Bearcats are slated to face Presbyterian on Friday, September 9, at 4:30 p.m. and then take on Fordham (10 a.m.) and Northeastern (7 p.m.) on Saturday, September 10. All matches will be held at the Cabot Center.
 
BU swept Niagara at the St. John's Jack Kaiser Classic last weekend, claiming its first victory of 2016. Freshman Lauren Kornmann led with 17.5 points, while Sarah Ngo tallied 35 assists. At the conclusion of the weekend, senior Bailey Walker was chosen to the all-tournament team. The co-captain generated 42 digs in three outings.
 
Kornmann paces the Bearcats with 59.5 points through six matches this season. She is hitting a team-high .201 and has served eight aces. Ngo has dished out 171 assists, while Walker leads the team with 93 digs. Kristella Morina has produced 16 total blocks this year.
 
Presbyterian is 2-5 this season, having dropped five consecutive outings after beginning its schedule with two wins. Sierra Davis has logged 65 kills and Sara Rogers has claimed 196 assists. Mikayla Register has 105 digs in seven contests. BU and Presbyterian will meet for the first time in program history. The Blue Hose went 4-24 last year.
 
Fordham sports a 4-3 mark in 2016. It went 1-2 at the Terrier/Rose Hill Classic last weekend, as the Rams lost to St. Francis and NJIT before defeating Quinnipiac. Olivia Fairchild tops the team with 141 points, including 18 aces. Maddy Walsh has recorded 292 assists, most among Atlantic-10 setters in 2016. The Rams posted an 8-23 record last season.
 
Northeastern has a 3-4 record in 2016. It dropped three matches in California last weekend, falling to Washington State, UC-Irvine, and California. Jamie Bredahl has scored 86.5 points, including 10 aces, in seven contests. Kristen Walding has contributed 187 assists and Gabrielle Eyl has compiled 135 digs to anchor the defense. In 2015, the Huskies went 6-25.
