Women’s Basketball Loses 67-61 to Albany

Watkins nets game-high 23 points, Moon adds career-best 16 points

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women's basketball team (8-10, 3-2 AE) was defeated 67-61 by Albany (9-9, 3-2 AE) in an America East game on Thursday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.

Junior guard Imani Watkins poured in a game-high 23 points, marking the third straight game and 10th time this year that she has reached the 20-point mark. In the process, Watkins moved into sixth place all time in program history with 1,255 career points. Against Albany, she surpassed Rachel Laws (2002-06) who had 1,246 points. Laws was inducted into the Binghamton Athletic Hall of Fame last month.

Freshman guard Kai Moon scored a career high 16 points, draining 5-of-10 shots from the field and sinking four of five free throws. Junior center Alyssa James, meanwhile, added 10 points.

Binghamton appeared in command of the game as it took a 48-37 lead on a pair of free throws by Moon with 6:29 left in the third period. Over the next five minutes, however, the Great Danes went on a 16-4 run to go up 53-32. Imani Tate, who finished with a team-best 20 points, had 12 of her points during that stretch.

Down 56-54 at the start of the fourth period, the Bearcats continued to struggle offensively. They hit only two field goals in the final 10 minutes of play. Albany, meanwhile, managed to build their lead to as big as 67-58 with 48 seconds left to go.
Tiana-Jo Carter came off the bench to score 12 points in the winning effort. Heather Forster chipped in 11 points.

Albany dominated in the paint, outscoring Binghamton 42-14. Off the bench, the Great Danes held a 22-3 advantage.

Binghamton heads to Stony Brook on Sunday for a 2 p.m. game.
