VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton wrestling team returns to the West Gym on Sunday, January 8th to face Columbia at 1 p.m. Tomorrow's match marks their first of the new year.Â
BU is most recently coming off of the Lock Haven Classic on Thursday, December 29th. Of the five wrestlers that competed, the team was led by Mark Tracy's 2nd place finish, followed by Jacob Nicholson (3rd) and Tristan Rifanburg (4th).
Binghamton is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the EIWA. It beat Hofstra for the first and sole EIWA match so far this season by a comfortable 21-11 score. The Bearcats won 7 out of 10 bouts during that dual. Both of BU's loses come from ranked opponents, including No. 19 Princeton and No. 2 Penn State. Binghamton was able to grab four solo match wins against Princeton but was shutout by the latter. Schneider, a 184-pounder, is tabbed 12th in this week's Wrestling InterMat rankings.
Columbia is 0-3 overall in duals entering this weekend. The Lions will start at Buffalo on Saturday before traveling to Binghamton for the dual Sunday. To start their season, Columbia earned a 3rd place finish at the New York State Championships in Ithaca, NY. The Lions had 13 individual place winners, including first place finishes by Austin Conikor at 174 and Garret Ryan at HWT. Ryan has been an NCAA Championship qualifier for the past two seasons.
Last season, the Bearcats fell to Columbia in a tight 19-18 dual. However, in the all-time series record, BU leads the Lions 6-2.Â
