Men’s Soccer Loses 2-0 at Vermont

Catamounts net both game in a span of six minutes in the second half

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Justin Freitas scored twice in a span of six minutes in the second half, powering Vermont (10-7-0, 5-1-0 AE) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (5-9-3, 1-3-2 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.

The loss overshadowed a solid performance by the Bearcats, who held a 17-9 advantage in shots as well as a 9-2 lead in shots on goal.

"I thought our guys played great today," head coach Paul Marco said. "It's disappointing to have nothing to show for it. Their goalkeeper (Aaron Runarsson) played very well and Vermont was able to score on their only two shots on goal."

Freitas netted his first goal in the 59th minute on a give-and-go pass from Jon Arnar Barddel. His second goal, which came in the 65th minute, was assisted by Geo Alves.

Binghamton currently sits in the sixth and final position for the America East Tournament with five points. The Bearcats host Albany on Wednesday in their regular-season finale and Senior Day match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
