VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (5-11, 2-1 AE) will travel to Baltimore, Maryland to face UMBC (9-7, 1-1 AE) on Friday night at 7 p.m. The contest will be played at RAC Arena.Â
Junior Gaby Alicea, outside hitter for the Bearcats leads the team with 217 kills, and was named America East Player of the week for the week of October 2, 2017. This was her third time earning weekly honors so far in her Binghamton career. Alicea averaged 4.4 kills per set for the Bearcats over the weekend. Sarah Ngo currently leads the team with 580 assists for a 9.67 assists per set average.Â
For the Retrievers, we can expect strong play from Junior Paola Rojas, and freshman Carmen Freeman. Rojas led the team last game against Stony Brook with nine kills, and Freeman is the leading the team in kills with 154.
The Retrievers lost their last game on Sunday to Stony Brook in straight sets, whereas the Bearcats are coming off a feel good victory against UNH 3-1.
Last season, the Bearcats and Retrievers met two times, with the Retrievers winning both, however, the Bearcats hold a 19-14 all time record advantage against the Retrievers.
The preseason poll had UMBC finishing fourth, and the Bearcats were selected to finish third.
