Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season at Stony Brook

Bearcats and Seawolves compete for a spot in the AE tourney on Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (10-14, 7-4 AE) travels to Stony Brook to play the Seawolves (16-10, 6-4 AE) at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Bearcats are looking to continue their winning streak, and beating Stony Brook this weekend would make that five continuous wins for the Bearcats. After Friday night's results, the Bearcats have secured a spot in the America East post season tournament. Currently, Binghamton is tied with New Hampshire for second place and Stony Brook sits in fourth. A win would secure a second-place finish for the Bearcats.

After beating University of Hartford and UMBC this past weekend at home, as well as being victorious against UNH and UMass Lowell two weeks ago, the Bearcats are coming in determined and prepared to give the Seawolves a competitive match this upcoming Sunday. November 12th is both the Bearcats and Seawolves last competition before the America East Tournament, which begins Friday, November 17th.

Earlier this week, senior setter Sarah Ngo was named America East setter of the week. This is the second week in a row the senior has earned the conference's weekly accolade. Her play against Stony Brook will be a determining factor to whether the Bearcats will make their conference record 8-4. Other players who will help guide the Bearcats to a successful outcome are Gaby Alicea and Lexi LaGoy. These two players have had excellent consistent play these past four games, and if they continue to keep up the greatness, Stony Brook will be in for a competitive match this Sunday.

The Seawolves fell to UNH 2-3 this past Sunday, November 5th, at noon. This close match, that Stony Brook fell short of, ended their three game winning streak. The Seawolves lead the America East conference in kills with 1290. Emily Costello contributed 261 of those kills while McKyla Brooks added 253. LeAnne Sakowicz leads the team with 1069 assists for a 10.58 assists per set average.

The Bearcats will be seeking revenge from their close loss against the Seawolves which took place earlier this season and also will be trying to get one more victory under their belt before conference play begins. With Binghamton striving to keep their four game winning streak alive and Stony Brook looking to bounce back from a loss to UNH, this upcoming match on Sunday is one not to miss.

This contest marks the end of the regular season for both teams. The America East tournament will be held at Albany on November 17-18.
