Volleyball Hosts Two Matches this Weekend

Binghamton to play Hartford Friday and UMBC Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (8-14, 5-4 AE) will play University of Hartford (5-17, 2-6 AE)  Friday, November 3 at 7pm and UMBC (13-9, 5-3 AE) on Sunday  November 5 at 1 p.m. Both contests will be held at the West Gym,The Bearcats are looking to build on their two game win streak.

The start of their winning streak began with a competitive victory against University of New Hampshire last Friday. Junior outside hitters, Erin Shultz and Gaby Alicea, had a combined total of 35 kills which powered Binghamton to victory against the four-time defending conference champions. This performance propelled the Bearcats to sweep UMass Lowell the following night, Saturday Oct. 28th. With Erin Shultz and Gaby Alicea having consistent game winning play, the help from Sarah Ngo's 44 assists only help solidify the Bearcats win and create a two game winning streak in conference play.
 
Hartford is coming off a 3-1  loss to conference foe Stony Brook last Sunday. Abby Nash led the way with 10 kills in a losing effort for Hartford, while Megan Anderson doled out 31 assists. Montrashey Worley led all players with 17 digs and Paulia Modestow added 11. Jenna Bridges posted seven kills and four blocks as well.
 
The last time the Bearcats and the Hawks met, Hartford took the match 3-2 at the Hartford volleyball gym.
 
UMBC is also coming off a loss to Stony Brook last Friday. The Retrievers fell to the Seawolves 3-0 at RAC Arena. Carmen Freeman led UMBC with a double-double recording 11 kills and 13 digs. Paola Rojas also had 11 kills for UMBC (13-9, 5-3), while junior libero Kristin Watson had a match-high 17 digs, and classmate Krytsia Negron had a team-best 32 kills.
 
The last time the two teams met, UMBC topped Binghamton 3-1 at RAC Arena.
 
Sundays' match will also serve as Senior Day for the Bearcats. Prior to the match, Binghamton will honor the team's three seniors, Kristella Morina, Lexi LaGoy and Sarah Ngo.
