CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Junior third baseman
Kate Richard clubbed a three-run home run and freshman pitcher
Rozlyn Price threw a three-hit shutout, leading Binghamton (1-2) to a 4-0 win over St. Joseph's (1-0) as Day Two of the Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Tournament got underway on Friday afternoon. In the nightcap, however, No. 20 South Florida (4-2) turned the tables with a 10-0Â
Richard's decisive shot came with one out in the top of the third inning against the Hawls. The Bearcats later padded their lead to 4-0 on a RBI triple by senior outfielder
Bridget Hunt in the top of the seventh inning.
Price, meanwhile, struck out six batters and shook off four walks to make the most of her first collegiate appearance. She retired the final six batters she faced.Â
Hunt and Richard each finished with two hits while junior second baseman
Stephanie Bielec went 3-for-4. The Bearcats as a team pounded out 11 hits.
While Price is now 1-0, the loss was tagged to Ashley Ventura, who is 0-1.
In the nightcap, it was three big innings that proved to be the difference for the nationally-ranked Bulls. They scored four times in the top of the second inning and three runs in both the third and seventh frames.
Â
Defensively, the Bearcats struggled in the field, committing six errors. As a result, nine of South Florida's runs were unearned.
Â
Hannah Parker improved to 2-0 with the win while senior pitcher
Shelby Donhauser fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Â
Binghamton faces Hofstra (11 a.m.) and No. 14 James Madison (4 p.m.) on Saturday as play continues at the Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Tournament.Â
