CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Binghamton softball team (1-4) lost a pair of games against stiff competition at the Michelle Smith Pediatric Cancer Tournament on Saturday. The Bearcats were defeated 14-6 by Hofstra (2-2) and 8-0 by No. 14 James Madison (7-1). The four-day event concludes on Sunday.
In the opener against the Pride, Binghamton was down 11-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning before reeling off six runs. Senior shortstop

Stephanie Bielec each added a RBI single.
Hofstra, however, scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and another run in the following frame to finish the game in five innings.Â
Sarah Cornell improved to 2-1 with the win while freshman pitcher
Rayn Gibson fell to 0-2 with the loss.
Rutherford went 2-for-3 against Hofstra.
In the nightcap, Alexander Odicci of James Madison held the Bearcats to just two hits and struck out five batters. In addition, she issued only one walk.
Odicci is now 3-1 while freshman pitcher
Rozlyn Price was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 1-1.Â
Rutherford went 1-for-2 to finish the day with a .600 batting average (.500).
Binghamton wraps up play in Florida with a 9:30 a.m. game on Sunday against Oklahoma State -- a team receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25 Poll.
NOTES: Oklahoma State is the third team Binghamton faces this weekend that is either ranked or receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25 Poll. South Florida, whom the Bearcats played on Friday, is currently ranked No. 20. Hofstra lost 7-5 to South Florida on Friday.
