Wrestling Falls to Buffalo 31-9 Friday Night

Kropman and Lombardo secure wins for the Bearcats

VESTAL, N.Y.-  The Binghamton wrestling team took a 31-9 loss to Buffalo Friday night at the West Gym. Parker Kropman and Anthony Lombardo were the only two Bearcats to take match wins for the night.

After dropping the first three matches to the Bulls, Kropman took the mat against returning national qualifier Colt Cotton. Down 2-0 after the first period, the freshman tied it up in the second with a takedown. Not quite satisfied, Kropman sealed the deal with a pin 4:58 into the match. Cutting Buffalo's lead in half (12-6), this was his 11th dual win and his third career pin.

"Kropman had a huge win at 149 tonight," head coach Matt Dernlan said. "Earning himself a bonus point win against a returning national qualifier says something in itself."

Another standout match for BU came at 174, where Lombardo rallied for a 5-2 decision win against Muhamed McBryde. Down 2-1 through the second period, the redshirt sophomore battled to earn four back points with 30 seconds left in the third period. Holding his lead, Lombardo secured the Bearcats their second and final match win, while also earning his second dual win of the season.

"I couldn't be more proud of how Lombardo wrestled today," Dernlan said. "He really bought into the game plan we had for him and he stuck to it the whole match. He worked very hard this week to get here and he earned himself that win."

Unable to claim any more victories, Binghamton fell 31-9 to Buffalo in the non-conference dual.

"I really believe that you get what you fight for," Dernlan said. "We have to give Buffalo credit because they came here knowing what they wanted and they fought hard for it. All we can do is be accountable for what happened here tonight and bring something different with us for the match tomorrow. It's a new slate."

Binghamton falls to 8-7 overall on the season, while Buffalo improves to 11-6. The Bearcats return to the mat tomorrow at 2 p.m. to face EIWA foe Bloomsburg for their regular season finale. Tomorrow's contest will also feature senior Dylan Caruana for a senior day ceremony.
