ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Host New Mexico (2-0) belted six home runs and defeated Binghamton (0-2) 10-4 Saturday afternoon at Santa Ana Star Field.
The nationally-ranked Lobos showed the offensive punch that positioned them in the nation's top-10 last season in slugging, beating BU for the second straight day in a matchup of NCAA Regional teams from 2016. Â
New Mexico stretched a 1-0 lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning and then broke the game open with two long balls in the fifth and another in each of the sixth and seventh frames.Â
The Bearcats got on the board in the eighth inning with four runs on four hits. Sophomore first baseman
Matt Tsukroff hit an RBI single and freshman catcher
TJ Wegmann followed with a two-run single to right for his first collegiate hit and pair of RBIs. Freshman designated hitter
Justin Drpich added an RBI groundout to finish the scoring flurry. Â
Junior starter
Jacob Wloczewski struck out four and only allowed four hits in 4.0 innings but the Lobos hit two homers off him and added on against the BU bullpen.Â
Sophomore third baseman
Justin Yurchak went 3-for-4 with a run scored and senior left fielder
Darian Herncane added two hits for the Bearcats, who matched UNM in hits with each team collecting nine.Â
