SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team fell to Syracuse 16-5 Saturday night at the Carrier Dome. In their second game of the season, Rebecca Golderman and Valerie DeNapoli each netted two goals.
"Today was a tough battle for our team," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "Although the result was not what we were looking for, we made good adjustments from our game against Lafayette and got consistent effort from everyone. We need to carry over the intensity and competitiveness to Colgate on Wednesday."
Syracuse jumped to an aggressive start, getting an early 6-0 lead in the first period. Callon Williams broke the shutout with a goal 20 minutes into the first period. DeNapoli scored her first goal of the game shortly after, with just about five minutes to go.
Trailing 9-2 going into the second period, the Bearcats continued to fight. Golderman recorded back to back goals halfway through the period with assists from Jacqueline Kennedy and Skye Schumacher. DeNapoli tacked on the final BU goal for the night with eight minutes left with an assist from Tiffany Ryan.
Williams scooped up a team-high five ground balls in the game and Golderman recorded six successful draw controls. Emma Jehle made 12 saves in the net.
The Bearcats return to the field on Wednesday, February 22 for an away matchup against Colgate. The game is set for a 5 p.m. start time.
