Women's Lacrosse Beats Colgate 16-12

Bearcats earn first win of the season, Golderman nets game-high five goals

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Women's lacrosse team beat Colgate 16-12 Wednesday night at Beyer-Small '76 field. The win is the first of their 2017 season and the first time they have beaten the Raiders in four years.

"I'm really proud of our team today and the way they battled back," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "They kept their focus for a comeback win. We needed this confidence boost to reinforce all the hard work and effort that's being put in on a daily basis. It was a really good team win."

Binghamton took the lead early in the first period when Rebecca Golderman netted an unassisted goal just three minutes into the game. From there, goals went back and forth between the Bearcats and the Raiders. Senior captain Callon Williams scored the second for BU on a free position shot before Colgate responded with back to back goals to take a 3-2 lead. 19:31 into the first, Jacqueline Kennedy tied the game up at three with an assist from Tiffany Ryan

Colgate went on to take the next three goals, jumping to a quick 6-3 lead. Kennedy came through again, scoring her second of the game and fourth of the season on a free position shot. Down 7-4 with six minutes left in the first period, Tiffany Ryan blasted her first goal of the game on an assist from Emily Yoo. In the net, Emma Jehle warded off the Raiders making a huge save with three minutes to go. Trading places, Yoo scored her first of the game and the last goal of the first period off an assist from Ryan, tying the score at 7-7 into the half.

Just a minute into the second half, Golderman secured her eighth goal of the season to put Binghamton up 8-7. In the next fifteen minutes of the second period, the Bearcats went on a 5-3 run as Ryan scored back to back goals before Williams, Kennedy and Golderman each netted one apiece to take a 13-10 lead. Colgate was able to get two back with ten minutes to go, but Ryan and Golderman sealed the deal with three final Binghamton goals as the game finished.

Golderman netted a game-high five goals while securing four draw controls and Ryan trailed closely behind with four goals and six points. Jehle made seven saves in the net.

The Bearcats head to Hanover, NH on Saturday, Feb. 25 for a non-league contest against Dartmouth. The game is set for a 12 p.m. start time.
