WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Host Hartford (9-21, 4-11 America East) put three players in double figures and made 13-of-14 free throws in the final 2:09 to hold off Binghamton men's basketball (12-18, 3-12 AE) 76-69 Wednesday night at Chase Arena.
Sophomore guard
Everson Davis tallied a career-high 19 points and his six straight brought BU to within two, 46-44, with 12:33 left in the game. But the Hawks went on an ensuing 11-3 run to build a double-digit lead. Binghamton didn't quit and a dunk from sophomore center
Thomas Bruce brought BU to within three, 72-69, with 38 seconds left. But Hartford made 4-of-4 free throws in the final 32 seconds to seal the win. Â
Davis hit six field goals and was 6-of-8 from the line. Junior forward
Bobby Ahearn added 13 points (11 in second half) on 4-of-7 shooting and sophomore guard
Timmy Rose chipped in 13 points and four assists.
The Bearcats were hampered by 2-of-11 shooting from three-point range in the second half.Â
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with six ties and nine lead changes. It was a rough opening five minutes for both teams as BU committed five turnovers but Hartford shot 0-for-5. Davis tallied six points in a 1:12 span and the Bearcats led 21-19 with 7:51 left. The Hawks went on an 8-0 run in a 2:10 span to open up a 28-21 lead and after the teams traded baskets much of the rest of the way, the hosts took a 38-32 lead into intermission.Â
Binghamton wraps up its regular season Saturday when the Bearcats host Maine at 2 p.m. at the Events Center. Seniors
