Women's Lacrosse Beats St. Francis 20-7

Golderman with game-high four goals as Bearcats secure first home win of the season

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore Rebecca Golderman netted a game-high four goals while junior Jacqueline Kennedy, senior Valerie DeNapoli and redshirt junior Jocelyn Penteck each tied for three to power the Binghamton women's lacrosse team past St. Francis, 20-7, Friday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats (2-5), who won its first home game this season, tied the school record for goals in a game with 20. This is also the second time Binghamton has scored 20 goals against the Red Flash.

"We are really proud of our total team effort today," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "We did really well on the offensive end and for us to use the tempo that we're capable of creating out there was something we talked about going into today. The goal of today's competition was to control the pace of play and I think we did an excellent job of that."

Eight different players registered a goal for the Bearcats in their meeting with the Red Flash. Golderman netted the first goal of the game just 50 seconds into the first half to set the pace for BU. From there, Binghamton went on a 5-0 run, seeing goals from Penteck, DeNapoli, and sophomore Emily Yoo.

St. Francis answered back, netting four in a row to cut Binghamton's lead 6-4. However, that was as close as the Red Flash would get as the Bearcats took a 3-0 run to extend the lead 9-4. Kennedy closed out the first half for BU with her first goal of the game, taking a 10-6 lead into half-time.

Binghamton came out firing from the start of the second half, as Golderman scored three goals in a row to fuel a 9-0 BU run. Kennedy netted two right behind her before freshman Alissa Franze scored her first career goal on an assist from Yoo.

Junior Olivia Batista snuck in her first goal of the game and fourth of the season off of an assist from Kennedy. Franze followed up with her second of the game and the last goal of the Bearcats run. St. Francis scored their seventh and final goal of the game with five minutes left in the second half before Batista finished the game for Binghamton with a goal in the last two minutes of play.

Kennedy finished the day 2-2 in free position shots, securing four draw controls and earning four points. Yoo notched two goals, three assists and five points in the game. Junior Emma Jehle picked up her second win of the season as she made seven saves in the net.

The Bearcats scored 20 goals in a game for the first time since 2014 (Howard). Binghamton also tallied 20-goal efforts against Niagara in 2011, Wagner in 2008 and St. Francis (Pa.) in 2006.

The Bearcats are home again on March 15 as they play host to Mount St. Mary's (MD). The game is set for a 3 p.m. start time at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
