Box Score COLUMBUS, OH. - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team fell 8-7 to Ohio State this afternoon at Ohio Stadium. Junior Jocelyn Penteck fueled Binghamton's offense with a game-high three goals in the tight scoring contest.
Binghamton started the first half strong, as sophomore Rebecca Golderman responded to the first Buckeye goal of the game on a free position shot just three minutes into the first half. Ohio State went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead over the next ten minutes.
Binghamton answered in the same fashion, as they ensued a 3-0 run to tie the game 4-4. Goals by junior Stefanie Frolo, senior Valerie DeNapoli and junior Jocelyn Penteck fueled BU's momentum. Ohio State was able to get another two goals in as the first half came to an end, taking a 6-4 lead into halftime.
Just three minutes into the second half, the Buckeyes scored again to extend their lead 7-4. Binghamton continued to fight, as Penteck scored back to back goals with just under 20 minutes to play, tightening the score 7-6.
BU was able to hold Ohio State off for the next ten minutes, seeing big saves in the net from junior Emma Jehle. With five minutes to go, OSU made a free position shot to move ahead 8-6. Sophomore Olivia Batista came back with a huge goal for the Bearcats with 46 seconds left in the game to inch closer 8-7, but unfortunately time ran out before Binghamton could find another goal.
Jehle held a strong presence in the net, making 11 saves and picking up four ground balls on the day. Penteck had three points to equal her three goals, while Frolo scored her first goal of the season in today's game.
The Bearcats look to bounce back mid-week as they travel to Niagara Falls, NY for an away game against Niagara. The game is set for a 2 p.m. start time.
