Men's Lacrosse Defeats Umass Lowell 15-8

Bearcats move to 1-0 in America East play

LOWELL, MA - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (5-1) topped host UMass Lowell (2-6) 15-8 in their first conference matchup of the season. Tom Moore contributed eight points for Bearcats on five goals and three assists. Binghamton is currently riding a four-game win streak.

The River Hawks netted a goal less than a minute into the game before the Bearcats went on to score five straight. Moore posted an unassisted goal at 13:47 and then Thomas McAndrew scored three in a row for the Bearcats on assists from Timothy Mattiace, Giffin Konen and Liam Reaume. Moore scored another unassisted goal with 1:23 remaining to put the Bearcats ahead 5-1 at the end of the period.

McAndrew scored his fourth goal of the game on a pass from Joe Licata to start the second period. Umass Lowell posted back-to-back goals with at 8:51 and 5:54. Licata closed out the scoring a goal on a pass from Moore.

The River Hawks scored three times in the third period in an attempt to cut the Bearcats lead, but Moore had the answer for Binghamton. Moore added two more goals on assists from McAndrew and Stephen Petrelli and assisted a Reaume goal to maintain a 10-6 lead after 45 minutes of play.

Four Bearcats scored in the fourth period to seal the victory for Binghamton. Tyler Deluca added two goals of his own on assists from Moore and Konen, and Licata, Moore and Reaume each added one for the Bearcats.

Austin Macchi was 18-25 at the faceoff X and Joe Grossi picked up eight ground balls for Binghamton. Tanner Cosens recorded six saves in the net.

The Bearcats host Vermont in an America East matchup next Saturday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game is a double header with the women's team who will play Vermont following the men's game.
