Women's lacrosse edged by Marist 9-7

Golderman scores four goals in home loss

VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Marist (2-3) grabbed control with three goals in a 7:20 span midway through the first half and the Red Foxes held off Binghamton women's lacrosse (1-5) 9-7 Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Sophomore midfielder Rebecca Golderman scored four goals, giving her 19 for the season, and BU outshot Marist 34-22 but came up short in their second of four straight home games.

Binghamton scored twice in the game's first 4:13 to take a 2-1 lead. Junior attacker Skye Schumacher opened the scoring with her first of the season just 58 seconds into the contest. After Marist evened the score, Golderman got her first of the game on a free position shot to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead. But the Red Foxes responded with four straight goals to build a 5-2 lead.

The Bearcats got one back before intermission when junior attack Tiffany Ryan found the net with just 36 seconds left in the half, cutting BU's deficit to just two, 5-3.

Marist opened the second half with a quick goal before Golderman and junior Jacqueline Kennedy struck 2:40 apart to pull BU to within one, 6-5. But Marist answered with a goal and after Golderman's third tally again brought the Bearcats to within one, Marist doubled its margin yet again. Binghamton could draw no closer than two the rest of the way.

The Bearcats pepped Marist with 34 shots but only converted 3-of-12 free position chances.

Junior goalie Emma Jehle made 10 saves.

Binghamton continues its homestand by hosting St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday.
