Nick Gallagher shut down Central Connecticut State in Binghamton baseball's 6-1 Game 1 win before the visiting Blue Devils gained a split with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.Â
In the opener, Gallagher (W, 6-1) and the Bearcats (21-9) spotted CCSUÂ (22-17) a quick 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run before scoring the game's final six runs. Gallagher allowed just two hits and the one run in his 6.0 frames. His season ERA stands at 1.57. Junior
Joe Orlando tossed a clean inning before senior
Nicholas Liegi went the final two scoreless innings.
Binghamton evened the score in the bottom of the first, scored another in the second and added pairs of runs in the fifth and seventh innings to complete the scoring.
Sophomore third baseman
Justin Yurchak (2-for-3, 2 RBI) belted a two-run home run in the fifth inning - his second of the season. Junior catcher
Jason Agresti had an RBI double in the first inning, junior center fielder
CJ Krowiak had an RBI single in the second and senior outfielder
Eddie Posavec dropped down an RBI bunt single in the seventh.
In Game 2, CCSU built a 3-0 lead and held off BU in the late stages of the seven-inning contest. The Bearcats scored twice in the sixth inning but left two more stranded. Then in its final at-bat, BU again put two runners on, thanks to a single by senior outfielder
Darian Herncane and a Krowiak double. But a groundout left them stranded and ended the game.
Posavec went 3-for-4 and Yurchak and senior first baseman
Brendan Skidmore had RBI singles in BU's 2-run sixth.
Junior starter
Nick Wegmann (L, 3-4) scattered five hits and three runs in 5.0 innings. Wegmann had four strikeouts. Sophomore
Cal Lawrence allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings.
The teams close out the series with a gmae at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Junior
