Volleyball Travels to Volley in the Valley

Bearcats will play three matches at Marist College

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team will travel to Marist for the Volley in the Valley tournament this weekend. Binghamton will play Rider at 3:00 p.m. and host, Marist, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The following day, Binghamton takes on Cleveland State University at 11:00 a.m.  to close out the tournament. All three contests will be played at McCann Arena on the campus of Marist College.

Binghamton dropped all three of its outings at the UNLV Invitational last weekend. Junior Gaby Alicea was named to the all tournament team as she led team in kills (33) and was second in blocks (3). Senior Sarah Ngo added 95 assists and 36 digs for the Bearcats.

Rider posted a 1-2 record at the James Madison Tournament last weekend. They topped Sacred Heart (3-2) and fell to Gardner-Webb (3-0) and James Madison (3-0). They also defeated St. Francis College-Brooklyn 3-0 on Wednesday night. Senior Jennifer Borio led the Broncos in the victory with 12 kills. Junior Hailey Riede also chipped in eight kills of her own.

The Red Foxes went 2-1 at their season opening tournament hosted by Lehigh University. Marist topped Lehigh (3-1) and Coppin State (3-0) and fell to Radford University (3-1). Sophomore Megan Fergus was named to the all tournament team after posting 21 kills and seven blocks. Taylor van der Biezen led Marist with 100 assists in the tournament.

Cleveland State posted a 1-2 record at the Purdue Mortar Board Invitational to open their 2017 season. The Vikings defeated Oral Roberts (3-2) and fell to No. 25 Purdue (3-0) and Alabama (3-2). Alexis Middlebrooks was named to the all tournament team after posting 40 kills on a .337 hitting percentage along with 12 total blocks on the weekend.
