ITHACA, N.Y. - Redshirt junior forward
Kayla Saager extended her points streak to eight games and sophomore forward
Ryan Reilly added a first-half goal to pace Binghamton women's soccer (5-1-2) to a 2-0 win over Cornell (1-3) Sunday afternoon at Berman Field. With the win, the Bearcats remained unbeaten in four road games this fall (3-0-1).Â
Saager converted 7:38 into the contest when a cross from the right was touched by freshman forward
Genna Michitti right to Saager, who put it high for her sixth goal of the season. She has tallied at least one point in all eight games this season (6 goals, 4 assists).Â
In the 21st minute, Reilly finished off a nice passing play for her third goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder
Carly Barnett took a corner kick and classmate
Sam O'Malley settled it and played it to Reilly on the doorstep.Â
The Bearcats' defense, meanwhile, recorded its second shutout in the last three games, limiting the Big Red to six shots.Â
Senior keeper
Katie Hatziyianis recorded three saves to lower her season goals against average to 0.98.Â
"Today we got off to a good start," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "Our energy and focus were outstanding to begin with and we rewarded ourselves with attacking opportunities and two goals. We are happy to have gotten the shutout as well, especially as Cornell's pressure increased during the second half. We are playing good soccer in some good stretches and we hope to build on that in our final week of non-conference play."
Binghamton continues its month-long road swing with a game at Bryant Friday afternoon.Â
